"This Canal is a masterpiece that every one should see" Journal des Savants June 7 1688

Bienvenue a Millepetit

Our handsome 18th century cottage is located canal-side on the ’Domaine de Millepetit’, only a few kms from Carcassonne, has been refurbished for the coming season, which of course means an upgrading of facilities, making ‘Millepetit’ an even more attractive choice for your holiday. The farmhouse has been restored with 21st century comforts in mind, creating a welcoming home from home, whilst retaining much of its charm, with stone features, wooden beams and rafters.

Location of cottage

The gite is almost uniquely situated, on a small working estate the ‘Domaine de Millepetit’, in a picturesque setting, south facing, right on the banks of the picturesque Canal du Midi, which dates from 1667 and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The cottage is adjoined to a barn, part of a larger farmhouse, where we also offer bed and breakfast over the summer months. Both overlook the farmyard and the Canal du Midi…we are almost next door to the beautiful Chateau and pigeoniere of the Domaine. A few friendly families live on this small estate and depending on the time of year you’ll also find some seasonal workers. During the summer months the domaine is a little livelier with farming activity and of course during the month of September we have the wine harvest or ‘vendange’. This makes Millepetit an ideal opportunity to sample rural life in the Languedoc-Roussillon. You can also buy your fruit and vegetables directly from the farmer…a fresher source would be hard to find.
